The Great Man-Made River Project

 

The worlds largest pre-stressed concrete pipe project - so far 2484 miles - was conceived in 1984 to carry water from well fields deep in the Sahara to the coastal population centres. Some sources already blaming this project for the recent drying-up of some of the Sahara's great lakes, which have been drawing tourists to Libya in recent years.
